Discounts for children
Children under 12 years old can travel free of charge without tickets in certain conditions.
General rule
- Children from the age of 0 to 12, accompanied by a traveller over the age of 12 who is holder of a valid ticket (max. 4 children per person) can travel:
- free of charge
- in 1st and 2nd class
- without any time limitation.
- Children from the age of 0 to 12, unaccompanied, can travel in both classes at a 50%* reduction in the price.
Exceptions
Children under the age of 12 who are holders of the "Large families" discount card can travel unaccompanied free of charge in 2nd class and at a 50%* discount in 1st class.
When to buy a ‘children’s ticket':
- as of the 5th child (if no passenger older than 12 holding a valid ticket accompanies the 5th child);
- children travelling alone (without a “Large families” discount card): children under the age of 12 who are not accompanied by a traveller over the age of 12 with a valid ticket;
- children travelling alone (with a “Large families” discount card): unaccompanied children under the age of 12 who wish to travel in 1st class.

Other info
- Free travel is only valid in domestic trains. In the Official Timetable, these trains are marked IC, IR, L, CR, P and ICT.
- This means that the free travel does not apply on the international trains at market prices Thalys, Eurostar, other TGVs and EN (Euronight), where booking is compulsory, or on trains marked INT (International) and EC (Euro City).
* Excluding the fixed fee of 0,8141 EUR in 2nd class and (0,8141 x 1,54 EUR) in 1st class.
