Compensations for delays

Brussels-Nord/Noord station

Safety, comfort, tidiness and punctuality are some of the main priorities of SNCB. Despite our day-to-day efforts to maintain regular train services and time schedules, delays may occur. Some delays occur frequently, which understandably causes annoyance among our customers. Therefore, as of 2006, our customers have been able to submit compensation claims in the event of delays, provided that certain conditions are met.

A new compensation scheme will come into effect on 01/09/08, offering more benefits to our customers.

To be entitled to compensation, you must have experienced:

  • either an occasional delay of at least 60 minutes;
  • or recurrent delays of at least 15 minutes each on your usual travel route.

"Recurrent delays" means a minimum of 20 delays of at least 15 minutes each or a minimum of 10 delays of at least 30 minutes each within a 6-month period dating from the first delay. E.g. up until 4 March 2009 when the first delay occurred on 5 September 2008.
