MoBIB

As from 1 June 2010, STIB will be installing fare gates at metro stations. Travellers using SNCB/STIB combined tickets and season tickets will then receive a disposable chip card or MoBIB card in addition to their ticket.

What is the SNCB MoBIB card?

Disposable chip cards and MoBIB cards are chip cards that can be read by the STIB validation machine within a 5 cm range. It lets you access the STIB network during the term of validity of your train card or travel ticket.

How to obtain a MoBIB card?

Combined tickets

When purchasing a combined travel ticket, you will receive a disposable chip card in addition to your train ticket. Both travel tickets will give immediate access to both (SNCB + STIB) networks. On board the train, you simply need to present your train card or travel ticket. To travel on the STIB network, you simply need to place the chip card within the validation range.

Combined season tickets

From 1 March onwards, whenever you want to validate your combined train card or purchase a new one, you will receive an SNCB MoBIB card that is linked to your train card. This MoBIB card will replace current STIB validation strips.

At the service desk, you will receive two travel tickets allowing you to travel on both (SNCB + STIB) networks. On board the train, you simply present your train card. To travel on the STIB network, you simply need to place the MoBIB card within the validation range.

Activating a combined train card with MoBIB card takes a little longer than simply revalidating a card, as your card will be fully personalised during the activation process. We recommend that you allow for some time for this procedure to complete. In order to personalise your card, we will need your electronic identity card or a passport photo.

The card will remain valid for 5 years at a cost of EUR 5,00. If you are not using the MoBIB card for the full 5-year term, you can go to any STIB point-of-sale and request a refund for the remaining number of years during which the card will not be used. The refund will take place on a pro rata basis: EUR 4,00 after the first year, EUR 3,00 after the second year, EUR 2,00 after the third year and EUR 1,00 after the fourth year.

Customers who have already purchased a STIB MoBIB card will be able to have their card linked to their railcard by one of our service desk assistants so that it can be used as an SNCB MoBIB card.
